Under Texas law, the County Judge serves as chief executive officer of the county and is involved in almost all aspects of county government, including preparing the County budget and presiding over Commissioners Court.

Judge Dan A. Gattis

county Judge Dan A. GattisDan A. Gattis, Williamson County Judge was sworn into office on January 1, 2007.  Since mentoring kids as a vocational education teacher and FFA advisor at Round Rock High School, Dan A. Gattis has dedicated his professional life to public service. A 5th generation Williamson County resident, Gattis' roots are firmly planted in Williamson County soil.

As a rancher, teacher, education administrator, director of a large non-profit organization and civic volunteer, Gattis has sought to make a difference everyday. As Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Gattis was responsible for planning and implementing the Rodeo's multi-million dollar budget, overseeing distribution of youth education scholarships and interacting with county and state government on regulatory and development issues.

As a civic volunteer, Gattis serves on the Board of Directors of Children at Heart Ministries, which includes the Baptist Children's Home of Round Rock and serves on the board of Miracle Farms, a boys home in Brenham, Texas. Gattis is a past chairman of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions, past board member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and of both the Professional Agriculture Workers of Texas and the Federal Credit Union of the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas.

Throughout his career, Gattis has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. He is the recipient of the 2002 John E. Hutchison Award presented by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service Specialist’s Association and has received distinguished service awards from the following organizations:  Young Farmers of Texas, Texas FFA, Southwest Texas State University, Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association of Texas and Professional Ag Workers of Texas. In 1992, the College of Agricultural Sciences at Texas Tech University named him Outstanding Agriculturalist. He was among the first group of recipients of the new Southwest Texas State University Alumni Achiever Award in 1993.

In addition, he is a member of the Williamson County Farm Bureau, Beefmaster Breeders United, Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.  He also serves on the Executive Committee of CAPCOG and the board of Mutual Automobile Insurance.

Most importantly, Gattis has been married to his wife, Karen, for 42 years. Dan and Karen are the proud parents of two sons, Dan M. and Brent W., and proud grandparents of Sterling and Carson. All of the family members are partners in their ranching operation - Gattis Cattle Company L.L.C. Gattis and his wife Karen are members of First Baptist Church of Georgetown, where Gattis serves as Deacon.

The County Judge's office is open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Judge Gattis has an "open door" policy.
