County offices will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, 2008.

 

The Williamson County District Clerk's office will be closed on Friday, May 9,

from 12 to 5 p.m. for staff training. 

 

Customer Service Initiative launched in the county

A new Customer Service Initiative was adopted by the Williamson County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, April 29, 2008.  The Customer Service Initiative is a shift to a strategic alignment emphasizing customer service.  It is adapting a business approach to align leadership, management, recruitment, policy development, training and compensation behind a key strategic emphasis of customer service.  more

 

C.R. 104 Closed to Through Traffic

C.R. 104 will be closed to through traffic from SH 29 to Rockney Road starting Friday, May 2, until the completion of the road improvement project, scheduled for the end of July 2008.  Williamson County is partnering with TxDOT to widen SH 29 to include a two-lane left turn lane onto C.R. 104 and a traffic signal into Georgetown East View High School.  Williamson County also will reconstruct existing C.R. 104 into a 4-lane roadway with storm sewer, curb and gutter.  The road was designed by Steger Bizzell and will be constructed by Cash Construction. The construction contract cost is just under $2 million. 

 

Election Day May 10

Election Day is Saturday, May 10, for elections regarding cities, schools, bond propositions, MUDs, and road districts.  The last day to early vote is Tuesday, May 6.  To look up your sample ballot or find voter information, go to http://wilcogov.org/elections/ or call 943-1630. 

 

Pct. 1 Town Hall/Open House May 12

Pct. 1 Commissioner Lisa Birkman invites residents to attend a Town Hall Meeting/Open House on Monday, May 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pond Springs Elementary Cafeteria, 7825 Elkhorn Mountain Trail, Austin.  The evening is an opportunity to visit with Commissioner Birkman and other county staff to learn about projects in the area.  The open house will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m., presentations will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and questions and answers will be from 7:30 to 8 p.m.  Representatives from Texas Department of Transportation and Capital Metro, Williamson County Parks and the Sheriff's Office will provide information regarding services.  For more information, contact Mary Clark (mclark@wilco.org) or Tammy Smith (tsmith@wilco.org) at 512-733-5380. 

 

SH 29 Corridor Study Open Houses May 12 and 13

Williamson County Commissioners Cynthia Long, Precinct 2, and Valerie Covey, Precinct 3, will hold two open houses regarding the SH 29 Corridor Study.  The first open house will be held Monday, May 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burden Elementary, 315 Stonewall Boulevard, in Liberty Hill.  The second is Tuesday, May 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Georgetown Church of Christ, 1525 W. University Avenue, Georgetown.  more 

 

www.wilcogov.org gets make-over

Williamson County will roll out a new format for its website on May 7.  The new format is a content management system that will allow more interaction, and individuals departments and offices will have more control updating their information.  The Williamson County ITS Department used free software and has been developing the site for eight months.  View the new site and send your comments on it to webmaster@wilco.org

 

Williamson County Recycling Center 

Did you know that Williamson County residents have recycled 72+ tons since January 2008?  With more items being recycled, less items end up in the landfill.  All residents in the county can use Williamson County’s Recycling Center at 101 Landfill Road, Hutto, Texas. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon.   For more information, call 512-846-2756.  Learn to recycle more by clicking tips.

 

Mission accomplished on collections for combat troops

Commissioner Valerie Covey reports that the collection her office coordinated for Fort Hood's Combat Aviation Brigade through the Adopt-a-Unit program was a great success.  Thanks to all who donated items for the soldiers to use while deployed.  Her office is still collecting monetary donations that will be used to provide activities for the soldiers' families who stay here at home.  Checks should be made payable to “Williamson County” with “Adopt a Troop” in the memo line and drop off or mail to:  Commissioner Valerie Covey, 3010 Williams Drive Ste 153, Georgetown, Texas 78628.   If you have any questions, you can contact Terri Countess or Rachel Rull in Commissioner Covey’s office at 943-3370. 

 

Regional Animal Shelter offers clinics, reduced adoptions this month

May 4 -10 is Be Kind to Animal Week.  The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is offering reduced adoptions to $65 through May 11. The next Trap-Neuter-Return and Cat Trapping Class will be held at the shelter May 8 at 6:30 p.m. Call 943-3322 to register.  The shelter will participate in an Off Site Adoption, Vaccination, and Microchipping Clinic in Hutto on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Co-op on Hwy 79.  A low cost vaccination clinic is held the first Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. One of the vaccinations provided by the clinic is the rabies vaccine, which all pet owners are required by the state of Texas to administer to their pets by the time they are four months old. Pet owners may also choose to have their pets undergo a microchipping procedure for the low price of $15. The next clinic is Saturday, June 7, 2008.  The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For further information, call (512) 943-3322, or you can visit the shelter’s website at www.wilcopets.org.

 

Pioneer Day 2008

The Williamson Museum invites you to Pioneer Day 2008 on Saturday, May 10, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The event will feature hands on activities like grinding corn, churning butter, playing old-fashioned games, and making cornhusk dolls. Visitors can see a cotton gin in action, visit with Buffalo Soldiers, learn in a one-room school, and even watch an authentic pioneer camp cook over an open fire. Entries from the "Home Sweet Texas Home" art contest will be displayed and Brushy Creek General Store will have pioneer items for sale. A free hot dog lunch will be served at 12 p.m. and an authentic Dutch oven lunch cooked on site will also be available for $3.00.  The free family event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Swedish Presentation at Courthouse

Magnus Gustafsson of Chalmers University of Technology, Goteborg, Sweden will present on education in modern Sweden. The presentation will take place on Saturday, May 31, at 4 p.m. at the historic courthouse,  710 S. Main Street, in Georgetown. 

 

Drive Clean Across Texas Sweepstakes

Anyone 18 years or older with a valid Texas drivers licenses can enter the Drive Clean Across Texas sweepstakes to win a Ford Escape Hybrid vehicle.  The sweepstakes ends August 18.  All instructions to enter can be found at www.drivecleanacrosstexas.org

 

BATStravanganza Fun Run May 10 to benefit Children's Advocacy Center

Saturday, May 10, 2008, Scott & White Healthcare will be hosting “BATStravaganza”, an event that will raise money for the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center. The event will consist of a 1K fun run for kids, a family festival and a free concert featuring The Biscuit Brothers. Other events include puppet shows, caricature drawing, moonwalks, and a Health and Fitness Expo. Registration for the fun run will begin at 8 a.m. on May 10, however, participants may register earlier by visiting www.batrun.sw.org or by calling (512) 509-0100.

 

Williamson County landfill fees

The Williamson County Landfill, located between SH 29 and SH 79 on FM 1660, is permitted to accept non-hazardous household, commercial and special waste, as well as construction and demolition debris. The landfill does not accept regulated hazardous or radioactive waste. The landfill also provides composting and tire recycling at the facility and Williamson County.  The landfill charges a flat rate of $25 for pickups and $15 for cars plus applicable fees.  The uncompacted rate without state fees is $30.50/ton plus TCEQ fee of $1.25/ton and monthly fuel surcharge, and the compacted rate without state fees is $30.50/ton plus the TCEQ fee of $1.25/ton and monthly fuel surcharge.  For more information, visit http://williamsoncountylandfill.wm.com/index.asp or call 512-759-8881.
