What is WCCAC?                  Updated 4/17/08

Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center (WCCAC) is a non-profit organization that provides needed assistance to abused children, non-offending family members, and the professionals dedicated to the intervention, investigation, prosecution, and treatment options related to child abuse cases.

It is our goal to minimize trauma and reduce re-victimization to child victims of abuse. This goal is accomplished by providing a multidisciplinary response to allegations of child abuse in a professional and child-sensitive manner and by videotaping interviews to reduce the number of times a child victim has to retell their abuse to multiple persons.  Children and teens coming to the Center may be victims of abuse and/or neglect, or may have witnessed a serious crime.

Multidisciplinary response includes the vital resources of law enforcement, child protective services, victim service providers, prosecutors, medical personnel, mental health professionals, and victim advocates.  This effective method provides an important sense of safety and consistency to the children and families involved.  Children and teens must have a case opened by law enforcement or child protective services, and one of those two agencies will determine if the victim should come to the Center for an interview.  The Center cannot interview an alleged victim without the referral from either law enforcement or child protective services.  One or both of these agencies are present for the interview and will watch the interview via closed circuit TV from an adjoining room.

The Center offers all services free of charge thanks to grant assistance, individual & business financial donations, community support, and gifts-in-kind.

WCCAC broke ground 9/8/06 for the new 7500 sq. ft. facility which is located at 1811 SE Inner Loop.  We moved into the beautiful new facility in October 2007 and celebrated with a packed house at our Grand Opening on November 7, 2007.  Click here for updated photos of the new Facility.
